Bob Sopko. Mr. Sopko has committed his life to others and specifically the boys of the Salisbury Baseball program on all levels. Sopko has volunteered as the Salisbury High School Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, as well as the Salisbury Connie Mack Baseball team head coach, and hosting his own clinics for younger players in Salisbury Township. Bob has taught his players, including myself, about the game of baseball and the game of life and he is an inspiration to many. He led the Connie Mack Baseball team to two consecutive League Sportsmanship Awards in Connie Mack and also received a Volunteer Award from Salisbury Township for his dedication to the Salisbury Baseball program. As well as his commitment to the game of baseball, Sopko served in the US Navy and Marine Corps. His countless dedication and commitment to Salisbury Township deserves recognition, recognition that belongs on the Alumni Wall of Honor.

I signed on to nominate and I see someone beat me to it. For his service to our country in the Gulf War. For his role in starting and continuing the Yelinko Memorial Tournament to aid scholar athletes. For his role on the coaching staff of the baseball team now. Bob and I were teammates back in the early 80’s. I can think of no finer first inductee.

Brendan & Shannan Hensinger August 21, 2016 at 12:54 am

We would like to nominate our father, Douglas Hensinger. He is a Salisbury graduate of 1977. While in high school he lettered in Cross Country, Basketball and Baseball. He was the falcon award winner his senior year in high school. He graduated from the University of Alabama where he played baseball on a scholarship. Our dad enjoyed team sports and felt it was important because it built teamwork, character and ethics. Upon graduating and getting married, he was a volunteer baseball coach under Frank Yelinko for 2 years. He was later hired as the Cross Country coach at SHS where he was the coach for 26 years. He was then hired as a Track & Field coach where he later became head coach. He was the Track & Field coach for 22 years. Our father also dedicated a lot of time supporting us in our sports at Salisbury. You could often find him during basketball season keeping the stats for both the boys and girls basketball teams.

Being his children, we saw first hand the sacrifice that he put into coaching numerous sports at Salisbury for almost 30 years. He genuinely enjoyed the student athletes that he coached. I, Shannan, his daughter was personally coached by him in both Cross Country and Track. He was always a positive and encouraging coach. He wanted to make the students enjoy what they were doing with no pressure for winning. Over the years, he has enjoyed many successful athletes and has been told, many times, how he has been a wonderful role model and mentor for these students. We feel that he has impacted the lives of a lot of students and given an incredible amount of years coaching and attending Salisbury so that is why we believe he belongs on the Alumni Wall of Honor.

I would like to nominate Mr. Mike Pochron for the Salisbury School District Alumni Wall of Honor. Mr. Pochron graduated from SHS in 1973. He has devoted his entire working career to the people of Salisbury Township. He worked and retired from the Salisbury Township Police Department with 25 years of service. He briefly was in charge, as Chief, of the St. Francis DeSales Campus Police Department. Finally settling in the position of Salisbury Township District Judge, a position which he still holds. All during this time he has coached the SHS Baseball Team, again, a position which he still holds as well as Assistant Football Coach spanning a career of almost 40 years. And working with the youth of Salisbury Township, his tenure and guidance has impacted many young lives for the better!

Hello:
I recently saw the Morning Call article on Salisbury’s wall of honor.
I wanted to nominate Jason P. Hoch, a 2002 graduate, and currently in a flight career with the US Navy. He is my son. Jason has already been on 4 combat deployments, and has made numerous remarkable achievements in his first 10 years with the military, and intends on remaining in for another 10.
As I was obtaining specific information, (I cannot connect with Jason regularly), I realized that I am past the deadline to submit the recommendation. I will gladly run the application over to you as soon as possible, rather than wait for the mail to deliver.
Or, I could simply email the application to you directly.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kathy S. Thomas
