2015-16 New Staff Feature – October 11

This school year we welcomed many new staff members. Throughout the  year, we’d like to introduce these new staff members to the Salisbury community through a series of blog posts. Please welcome Joy Wernick, Tracy Merrill and Any Morgan!

Joy Wernickwertick

Job role in STSD: Elementary Guidance Counselor

Building assignment: Western Salisbury Elementary School

Previous work experience: After finishing graduate school, I was a Long Term Substitute counselor at Concord Elementary in the Garnet Valley School District for grades K-2. I have worked for the past three years with high school students, first at Freire Charter School in Philadelphia and then for the past two years at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts in Bethlehem.

Educational background: I went to college at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA where I received my B.A. in Sociology and was a part of the Hurricane Katrina class of 2009. After graduating from Tulane, I moved to Philadelphia to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. I am certified as a school counselor for grades K-12 in the state of Pennsylvania.

No. of years in education: 5

How do you “sharpen the saw”?  When I am not at school I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy running, trying new foods, playing with my dog, and traveling whenever I can.

Other interesting facts: I spent a semester abroad in college in Rome and am hoping to visit every country in Europe in the future.


merrillTracy Merrill

Job role in STSD: Special Education Teacher

Building assignment: Western Salisbury Elementary School

Previous work experience: Previously I worked in both the Allentown and East Penn School Districts as a Learning Support Teacher. I have experience in Elementary and Secondary education.

Educational background: I earned my BS in Community-Based Health Education from Penn State (WE ARE!). I returned to school to earn my M.Ed. in Special Education with certification in both special and elementary education.

No. of years in education: 6

How do you “sharpen the saw”?  I enjoy traveling with my family and participating in “high adventure” activities. This past summer, we went rafting on the Colorado River, rode 4 wheelers in the desert and hiked the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

Other interesting facts: I have traveled to South Korea and toured the entire country!


morganAmy Morgan

Job role in STSD: Instructional Assistant

Building assignment: Western Salisbury Elementary School

Previous work experience: I worked as a Center Director for Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers @ Truman Elementary School.

Educational background: Received my High School diploma from Dieruff High School in 1998. Continued my education at Northampton Community College where I earned an associate degree in Elementary Education. When my busy schedule allows, I take classes at Cedar Crest College toward my bachelors degree.

No. of years in education: 14 years working with school-aged children

How do you “sharpen the saw”? I stay very active with my two beautiful children, ages 10 and 4. I enjoy exercising, playing sports, and my favorite — the sun and beach!

Other interesting facts: I am in the NCC athlete Hall of Fame for Tennis and Basketball. I am married to my wonderful husband, Kyle, for 10 years.
